Commemorating Minority Health Month In Challenging Times

April is Minority Health Month, when we amplify the voices of those working tirelessly to eliminate health disparities and promote access for all. But this year, we find ourselves in a moment of challenge. Across the nation, we are witnessing drastic cuts to Health and Human Services and the very Offices of Minority Health that have been lifelines in our communities. These offices were never luxuries; they were necessities advocating for policies, programs, and resources that ensured our most vulnerable populations had access to quality care. Now, as these critical supports face uncertainty, we must stand together, not in despair, but in determination.

To our colleagues in the National Association of State Offices of Minority Health, and to every advocate who has committed their life’s work to this cause: this is not the time to retreat. History has shown us that progress is never easy, but we are a people of resilience, of faith, and of action. We have overcome before, and we will again. This moment demands that we lift our voices louder, strengthen our alliances, and continue the fight not just for funding, but for the lives that depend on it. Let us hold fast to the belief that promoting for health justice for all is not optional; it is  essential. And together, through faith and unwavering commitment, we will triumph.
