The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) announced a new framework to modernize how conditions are evaluated for inclusion on the Recommended Uniform Screening Panel (RUSP), which helps guide newborn screening programs across the country. The updated process is intended to make reviews more efficient and transparent while keeping pace with advances in science. States and territories screen more than 3.6 million newborns each year, and nearly all state newborn screening programs use the RUSP to help determine which conditions to include in their screening panels. The new approach will also include stakeholder input and continued independent evidence reviews.
